I chose two photos: some mangoes and a building. The building is located in Caracas, Venezuela. I chose this human-made object because I really like the effect of the windows, and it’s also a building that I find beautiful. I selected the mangoes because they are a fruit that is abundant in Venezuela. I chose these two images because, to me, they represent the essence of my country in my work. Wherever I go, I don’t like to forget where I come from. Painting this is a constant reminder of my roots and experiences.

Talking more about the piece:
For the image representing the building, I chose the monochromatic blue layer to represent the day and the complementary layer to represent the night, with yellow windows and the building in purple. The purpose was to make the painting more engaging while playing with colors and showcasing the same image at two different times of day imagined by me, as this doesn’t exist in the original reference image.

For the mangoes, I chose analogous and tertiary colors because I feel they best match the fruit. Mangoes naturally have various colors that blend depending on their ripeness.
